Stepping Stones Triple P Seminars

Stepping Stones Triple P is an evidence based parent education workshop series for families of children with developmental disabilities who have or are at risk of developing behaviour problems.

The seminar series introduces participants to the principles of positive parenting and positive behaviour support strategies to encourage skill building confidence, competence and resilience in children. Although not required, participants are encouraged to attend the seminar series in the order presented.

Seminar One – Positive Parenting for Children with a Disability:
Focuses on the seven key principles of positive parenting and how to apply them in the child’s environment. Positive parenting involves emphasizing what is going well and planning ahead to prevent problem behaviour.

Seminar Two – Helping Your Child Reach Their Potential:
Focuses on six steps to teach new skills. How to choose skills to teach, using rewards, when and where to teach, effective teaching strategies and progress tracking will be discussed.

Seminar Three – Changing Problem Behaviour into Positive Behaviour:
Looks at the six key steps to change or manage problem behaviour. We will cover the importance of tracking the problem behaviour, look at why it is happening as well as how to encourage positive behaviour.

Autism Foundation Workshops

1. Introduction to Autism Spectrum Disorder*:
This BCBA Supervisor lead session provides families with an introduction to the characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorder, and some of the recent research that explains how ASD can affect brain functioning. Families will begin to look at the strengths and needs of their own child and parent will discuss various ways that they can take care of their own needs.

2. Building Blocks for Learning: Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA Key Terms)*:
An opportunity for families to learn about the scientific principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) used to support a child’s skill development. This workshop includes an introduction to basic terminology, parent role-play, discussion and activities to apply ABA strategies in everyday parenting situations.

3. ABA Strategies Applied:
This seminar is best suited for caregivers with a foundational knowledge of ABA

The focus of this workshop will be a review of the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and how they can be incorporated into a family’s day to day life. There will also be an opportunity to create a customized goal-specific teaching plan for a child.

4. Challenging Behaviours Strategies for Prevention and Redirection:
A guide to improving problem behaviour . This seminar requires a foundational and applied use of ABA in your home.

Learn about the various functions of behaviour and why a child might engage in challenging behaviour. Participants will use case studies to develop an understanding of how to use ABA (Applied Behaviour Analysis) strategies to prevent and/or redirect difficult behaviours.
